This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

We are developing a large-size web application (1600+ screens and 1600 tables) using EGL and RBDe. Due to layered nature of the application architecture and screen-specific requirements, the number of files in project is further multiplied. Effective project size is of the order of 30000 files (including JSP, JS, resources, EGL, IR, Java, class etc). As a result the workspace is heavy and RBDe becomes very slow.
Splitting the project into multiple smaller sub-projects with (non-cyclic) dependencies, does not help much because currently RBDe requires all referenced sub-projects to be imported and kept open in the workspace, even if some of the sub-projects are read-only i.e. never changed. So the total number of files in workspace still remains same. With the huge volume of our project, it drastically slows down the performance.
A simple low-cost resolution is to provide a feature to include EGL Archive file (.eglar) to EGL build path of an EGL project in RBDe. The concept of EGLAR inclusion is similar to the inclusion of JAR in java build path. Thus the referencing (dependent) project will include both an EGLAR and JAR for the referenced project, eliminating the need to import, build, generate referenced (read-only) projects.

This RFE's Headline was changed after submission to reflect the headline of an internal request we were already considering, but will now track here.
Support for EGL Archive (EGLAR) files is now available in fix pack 8.0.1.2.
This enhancement is in plan for implementation in the near to mid-term timeframe.
As suggested by Paul Hoffman, Wipro would like to contribute by participating in the design review for this RFE.
We agree that this would be a desireable enhancement that could be used by many customers. It will be considered for implementation in a future release.
