Compatibility mode option for Cobol compiler

We would like to have a compile option to prevent usage of new compiler functions provided via PTFs. Starting with COBOL V5+ IBM delivers fixes besides with new functions every 2 months. Right now there is no way to prevent users from using these new functions. The included new function often requires a higher LE-PTF-level. In that case you have to ensure that the required LE level is provided on all production systems before using this new functions. This is a problem especially when the fix pack contains fixes needed.

Hi, we have reviewed this Idea internally and we believe there is no easy way to achieve it.

However, currently there are several ways to prevent users from using new function/features that get shipped in a PTF, eg:

    1) Restrict new language reserved words in the alternate reserved word table

    2) Restrict new compiler options by turning them off in IGYCDOPT and making them non-overridable

Based on the above reasons, we have decided to reject this Idea.
