ZONECHECK option in COBOL V5 retrofit into COBOL V4

At a SHARE session I found out that invalid coding for zoned decimal items was a problem for migrating to COBOL V5. Per the session, it appears that a new compiler option is being considered for COBOL V5 to insert code to identify these invalid definitions at run-time.

This is a request to retrofit that compiler option to the COBOL V4 compiler.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
    Product - COBOL Compilers

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
    Product - COBOL Compilers

I'm not sure; but wouldn't it be better to have that option on compiletime? Or would such an option flag (nearly) all commands with zoned variables?

This is a valid feature request. Moving it to 'Uncomitted Candidate'. This RFE will be updated when it has been put into plan.
