In the COBOL editor, be able to put the cursor at any column on a line like in LPEX

Using the LPEX editor, while editing COBOL, the user can put the cursor at any column in a line by just clicking with the left mouse button at the position where the cursor has to be set. After that, the user can enter text that will be inserted from the column where the cursor has been previously set. After the cursor has been set, the user can also use the Delete keyboard shortcut to join the current line with the next one, starting at the position of the cursor.

With the COBOL editor, the cursor can't be set at a column that is greater than the actual size of the line. If the user wants to set the cursor at a column greater than the actual size of the line, he must enter spaces at end of line.

The requirement is to have the possibility, with the COBOL editor, to set the cursor at any column in a line by just clicking at the desired position. From this cursor position, the user should be able to insert text at this position or use Delete to join lines starting at this position.

It could be a new mode implemented in the COBOL editor, that the user could select in the preferences.

When this new mode is activated, the way the cursor moves when the user uses the keyboard shortcut to move the cursor up, down, left and right should be also affected. Using the up, down, left and right shortcuts, the user should be able to move the cursor at any column, including column numbers that are greater than the length of the line.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest an enhancement to our product. Many of our product enhancements result from feedback from our customers, so your input is always very important to us; However, your request for enhancement is not currently aligned with our product strategy and vision and we have no plans to address your request in the near future. Again, thank you for your suggestion and continued support.
