Line Truncation Warning

Hi friends.

When there are some lines in a cobol program that exceed the maximum line length a dialog can be displayed to warn the user.

But, there is NO option to know WHICH lines are the ones that exceed this line length? Sometimes is very difficult to find the line or lines where this problem is happening.

Would be great to know which lines are causing the problem.

Thanks!

The File Truncation Warning dialog can warn you that some lines will be truncated if you continue your save. If you continue your save, those lines should be truncated successfully and future saves should not pop up this dialog again, unless you add new lines that overflow.

I ask this because if are getting repeated prompts that lines will be truncated every time you save, we will want to make sure the truncation algorithm is working correctly when the file is saved. If you are experiencing repeated File Truncation Warning dialogs because the built-in truncation behavior seems to be leaving some lines not fully truncated, i have some follow up questions to help us diagnose the cause: are you working with local or remote files, what remote code page are you using, and are you using any of the Double-Byte Character Set (DBCS) functionality

If it is simply a matter that you would like to fix the overflows yourself rather than let the editor truncate overflowing lines automatically for you on a save, then some possible solutions include:
    - annotating the overflowing characters like we do with syntax errors using a yellow underline
    - list the line numbers with the overflows in an expandable details section of the File Truncation Warning dialog
