Enhance Content Assist

Enable RD/z Content Assist to search C libraries on the mainframe (when in the C/C++ editor) for C code even if a specific include is not in the code.

For example, when using the XL compiler under z/OS, I do NOT have to put an include in for "stdio.h" to be able to code a "printf" and compile/run that code successfully.

However, when using RD/z, I cannot use Content Assist for C standard library functions such as "printf" without an include present for "stdio.h".

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for System z

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - Developer for System z

This RFE is consistent with our strategy and is being considered for delivery within the next 2 year time frame. Thanks.

This sounds OK to me. Sorry for the delay. I don't think I got a notification of this one.

Maybe a tickler system to resend your request after x days would be good?

    Regards,

    Kevin

The XLC compiler allows you to call functions without specifying a function prototype (or specifying an include statement that contains the prototype) for C files. The compiler allows this for ALL functions and does not do strict syntax checking at compile time for these functions. Since this feature is available for any function, RDz would have to read all the header files that are contained in all of the include paths and provide content assist proposals for each function that is found. This is extremely performance intensive and would cause unacceptable delays during content assist.
In order to better scope this feature request, we could provide a property/preference that contains a list of header files that RDz should read for content assist proposals. These proposals will be available in ADDITION to any found in included header files. The list of headers that are specified on the preference page should be found in the include path. Note that the property/preference would need to be set and maintained by the USER. Please let us know if this is acceptable. Thanks
