Request for a feature in IMS to generate artifacts directly with a batch job

When you want to expose an application program as a service provider, you need Rational Developer for System z (RDz), which provides tooling for generating artifacts needed for IMS to provide and consume Web services.
So you need another tool different from IMS, which you need to maintain.
Instead, CICS may use the Web services assistant utility, that is the two programs, DFHWS2LS and DFHLS2WS.
These programs can be run as a z/OS batch job and are part of CICS installation.
We would like to have a way to generate the needed artifacts directly also for IMS.

    Hi Daniele Agosti,

Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.

At this time, after reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, we have decided to reject it. The reason we are rejecting RFE ID 71266 is we have stabilized the SOAP Gateway support and generally we would not be adding any new functionality.

However, we now have a new solution for support API. The solution is called z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition, which comes with the API toolkit tooling. z/OS Connect enables you to generate artifacts for enabling IMS transactions as API or calling API from an IMS application.

For more information, please see the following link:

Thank you for your continue support with IMS. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us.
