Extend z/OS Connect to work on IBM i (for RPG apps) - a single IBM Connect for Systems of Record

My client (major global bank) wants a single IBM connect solution to expose RPG (i) and COBOL (z) systems of record as REST/JSON APIs. Currently z/OS Connect is tied to the z platform - but being based on Liberty it should be readily portable to IBM i (same runtime , API tooling etc) - requiring the addition of suitable back-end connectors.

There is currently a solution available for i Series to expose REST which can then be consolidated together using API Connect.

The IBM i has a REST or SOAP Web Services engine that is shipped with the OS. It provides both the engine for hosting Web Services as well interfaces that are centric to IBM i RPG and COBOL to allow your IBM i development team to easily and very quickly create and host web services over your existing business logic.
