Drop warning message for EXCI programs

We have programmers who feel compelled to have their compiles complete with a zero return code. This became an issue when we upgraded from COBOL 4.2 to 6.2; the warning message was not issued with the old version.

With the integrated translator, the only way to compile an EXCI program is by specifying that in the CICS parameter. We'd like to see the compiler not bother issuing the message if the EXCI parameter is specified. (SR 02761,082,000)

    Hi Larry,

We have discussed this internally and we believe there is currently a way to customize the compiler message 0238 to be 'I' level or to be suppressed as offered in the PMR using the MSGEXIT suboption of EXIT.

Please consider using one the above options.

    Thanks.

I'm the CICS SME and, as a result, I don't do anything with the compiler or its messages, I just use the compiler. I opened this RFE because it seemed logical to have the compiler issue warning messages only when there is something to be warned about. Since compiling a program with the EXCI option is a deliberate action, I didn't think there was anything to be warned about.

If it is normal to issue warning messages when they are not required, I can approach the z/OS guys who handle the compiler about using the exit you mentioned. I do know they prefer to not do any customization unless absolutely necessary since it's something they need to deal with anytime they are applying maintenance or upgrading software.

    Regards . . . Larry Frank

Hi, may I know if you have tried ustomizing the compiler message 0238 to be 'I' level or to be suppressed as suggested in the PMR using the MSGEXIT suboption of EXIT?
