RD/z "Light"

Software developers here will be getting RD/z on their development PCs soon. But, we have quite a few other users that don't need language or debugging support but would use ISPF & SDSF views etc. Hence the term RD/z Light. I would envision RD/z Light costing less per seat than the full RD/z.

Another issue for us is that our DR site has only Linux workstations and therefore, currently, has no way of hosting RD/z. Again, this environment (for us) would call for RD/z Light and not the full blown version. If I understand correctly, the only reason that RD/z doesn't run on Linux platforms is for the language support in RD/z.

It would be useful if maybe the forums hosted a "voting" mechanism to take polls on this type of question?

Regards,

Kevin

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for System z

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - Developer for System z

The RDz team is considering lighter packages but RDz will always include language and/or debugging functionality. However we are considering Linux client support for RDz. Please open a request if you want to track Linux client support. Thanks.
