Enterprise Cobol - Source text replacement in string

The REPLACE and COPY REPLACING directives allow replacements to be made in the source text, but these replacements only apply to COBOL words.

Unless we are mistaken, it is not possible to carry out replacements in string type literals.

We suggest that the syntaxes "== pseudo-text ==" of the REPLACE and COPY REPLACING directives also apply to string literals.

    Concatenation operator « & » is ISO Cobol standard but not supported in IBM Cobol.

    This would be the solution.

    This request is not part of the COBOL Standard and is not inline with our long term roadmap. As a result, it is being rejected.

    @Rune,

    Thanks, this ok for "DISPLAY", but not for "VALUE" in PICTURE :

    01 WELCOME PIC X(80) VALUE "Hello :1: !".
    ...
    DISPLAY WELCOME.

    This would be ok if IBM COBOL had the "&" string concatenation operator (wich is standard ISO) :

    01 WELCOME PIC X(80) VALUE "Hello " & ":1:" & " !".

    REPLACE ==":1:"== BY =="Rune"==.

    Hi Denis,
    You can already do this:
    REPLACE ==':THIS:'== BY =='THAT'==.
    DISPLAY 'Transaction - ' ':THIS:' 'Is ending'
    Regards,
    Rune
