IBM Z Open Editor supports pseudo-SO/SI characters

Hello,

Please consider functional improvements with regard to IBM Z Open Editor (VSCode). We would like to provide pseudo-SO/SI characters which are inserted for DBCS text so that record length and column alignment are the same as on an EBCDIC system and supported in IDz. Japanese customers' source code and JCLs often include DBCS. Text without pseudo-SO/SI is difficult to edit because DBCS is left-justified. Source code that should be correct turns out to be a syntax error. In particular, source code and JCLs with sequence numbers other than 80 bytes cause errors when uploading to the host and compilation errors. It would be helpful if you would consider making improvements. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Thank you for taking the time to suggest an Idea to our product. Many of our product enhancements result from feedback from our customers, so your input is always very important to us. Your request is mostly in line with our product strategy and we added it as a candidate for future releases of the product.

We would also like to suggest that you write these characters in the escaped format as documented here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cobol-zos/6.3?topic=registers-shift-out-shift-in, because we cannot offer hex or ebcdic editing in VS Code but will will work to improve the user experience in future releases.
