Open source language server(s) in IBM Z Open Editor

Not entirely sure if the source for the LSP implementations are made openly available, so please close this off it is.

Open sourcing the LSPs for JCL, REXX, COB, ASM, will allow them to be used as extensions to other IDEs.
VS Code is popular due to its ubiquity, but it's a common and widely acknowledged pain point that neither VS Code nor Jetbrains' IDEs natively support remote development with z/OS, or even Linux on Z. Working via z/OSMF/FTP/zowe is markedly different from working on a remote x86_64 linux server via these 2 IDEs.
With alternative open source IDEs, it will be possible to add back-end integration for Z natively or through their plugin/extension architecture.
However, they are not likely to accept extensions (or components, such as the LSP) that don't also use, for example, MIT or Apache-2.0 license.

So while support for Z in VS Code or Jetbrains' IDEs has been a very long-running issue in their respective issue trackers, progress is unclear.

Please allow alternatives to emerge.

Vignesh, as Peter explained we will not be able to share this code. We appreciate you opening the IDEA and engaging in dialogue with us.

Thanks, I already have one open for it - https://ibm-z-hardware-and-operating-systems.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/ZOS-I-4029

Is it not possible to open source the LSP? As I have mentioned, VS Code is not the only IDE, and it's very limiting to funnel the whole mainframe ecosystem to this one IDE (or even Eclipse Theia).

Hello. Thanks for your feedback. Z Open Editor is not an open-source project, but part of products that we sell to enterprise customers. It has a lot of free (but not open-source) components for education and to get people interested.

However,  VS Code is mainly open source and the Gitpod company has provided open source code for the missing pieces such as Open-VSX marketplace integration. The missing piece for us is the ability to build vscode server for z/OS to run it there for remote development. One component missing is a Rust compiler for z/OS. You might want to consider opening an idea against the compilers team to provide it.
