This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

We would like to request the implementation of 64-bit addressing mode for zWS to avoid potential S878 storage-related abends.
Our current production zWS controller has a very large and complex batch schedule with a high frequency rate of updates.
This has led to several S878 abends and hang conditions occurring with the controller, ultimately leading to delays in the critical batch process and causing significant service disruptions.
One recommendation made in order to relieve these storage contraints, was the exploitation of data spaces. This is indeed what we are already doing.
However, given the complexity and nesting dependencies between multiple jobs, this is not sufficient to alleviate our existing storage constraints.
In addition, we would also like to request that this addressing mode requirement be implemented for WAPL too.
Exploiting 64-bit addressing mode within zWS will allow us to further expand our batch capabilities without facing the current storage constraints.

We do not plan currently to support 64bits addressing also because we believe it's not needed. A correct configuration and appropriate evaluation of the workload manageable by one Controller, with the option of splitting on two Controllers, provides a better functioning of the product overall besides avoiding 878 abends.
