IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Implement Hdwe. Instr. Svc. (HIS) on TPF

TPFUG_Req_Number: S13001
ORIGIN DATE: 3/26/2013
REQUIREMENT ABSTRACT

Relative Nesting Intensity(RNI) is a new hardware measurement available on z10 and later hardware. IBM should report data through TPF performance utilities.

REQUIREMENT DESCRIPTION
The measurement capability was first introduced in the z10 class processors. The TPF utility to collect the measures is available, but sending data to IBM to get a report is an ineffective means to evaluate the data. Introducing the data into continuous data collector, or other similar processing should be provided for reporting and evaluation of the data.

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS

Reporting can be provided through current processing of cpu utilization, IO, and memory utilization measurements. If the current collection doesn't include continuous and sampling of the data, the CPU measurement data collection utility should be modified to do so. The reporting solution should be enabling automated processing that provides timely and easy access to the data for evaluation. For example: Desktop/excel summaries, and/or SQL based data repositories.

ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS

SOLUTION CONSIDERATIONS (required)

Simply writing the data out to a memory, disk or tape file is not helpful for customers running TPF. A means to process the collected data for evaluation is basic to delivery of the information where it can be helpful. Since IBM is moving toward pricing models for software based on these metrics, it is sensible to provide customers a means to evaluate the effects of their technology decisions on that pricing, as well as, make improvements in their TPF applications.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/TPF

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - z/TPF

IBM does not intend to do this in the forseeable future.
