Support for Extended Password Length and External Password Management

To align with modern security best practices, which recommend passwords exceeding 64 characters, the current limitation of 15 characters for the DBPSW parameter in the dbopt statement must be addressed. This will enable compliance with contemporary security standards and flexibility for password management.

Password Length Extension

  • Replace the DBPSW parameter in the dbopt statement with an external file or dataset reference.
  • Introduce a new parameter, such as DBPWSDD, to specify the dataset containing the password.

Password Handling from External File

  • Read the password from the specified file or dataset.
  • Ignore line breaks within the file and concatenate lines to form the complete password

This allows arbitrary password lengths, enabling compatibility with custom secret providers or management mechanisms.

Security Compliance

  • No additional encryption for the password is required since z/OS provides native data-at-rest encryption.
